CHAPTER TWENTY
CEDAR, AKA “The Jockster,” felt a little guilty for making Scott sleep alone, and for a minute, for more even, he considered—wrestled with the idea—of breaking his rule. But no. The thought near brought on a panic attack. No. No sleeping together.
Not for love or money.
Not for tea or sympathy.
Not for gods or country.
Cuddling was one thing. It was fun. He wanted to cuddle with Scott. He’d wanted to take Scott to his hammock and suck his cock and make him explode and then cuddle.
Then for some reason, he’d suddenly realized he didn’t want to have sex for the first time with Scott while the man wasn’t perfectly cognizant. How good could the sex be?
Of course, it wasn’t like he wasn’t going to get a lot of sex this week. One bum fuck didn’t mean there wouldn’t be any good sex.
But… it was more than that.
To his surprise, Cedar found that…. What?
He felt responsible for Scott for one thing. Maybe he shouldn’t have allowed the guy to do the hallucinogens.
No.
No. Scott was an adult. Scott could do whatever he wanted to do. He had tried to talk Scott out of it.
But no.
How was Scott supposed to say no? Somehow as Cedar had thought about it this morning, he saw that Scott had been put in a situation he probably hadn’t been in before. A peer pressure kind of thing. Especially after Ferret.
Gods. Why didn’t I see it? Cedar thought with a groan. This was why he avoided people like Scott. And Elijah and Charlotte. Responsibility. He had enough responsibility. He didn’t need to take on anyone else. That’s why guys like Ferret were perfect. There was affection and connection and fun. But that was it. More than a pickup, but nothing serious. It was like a boyfriend of sorts he only saw one night a year—and Ferret respected one of Cedar’s only rules.
No spending the night.
No waking up all spooned up together.
Never.
Ever.
The thing is Scott would want more than that. Cedar should have known that the second they started talking. It was in those pretty eyes of his. The vulnerability.
Gods! Is that what I’m attracted to?
But gods damn, that kiss! Cedar couldn’t even remember the last time a kiss had been like that….
Oh. Oh, but he could. He knew exactly when the last time had been.
And that’s what concerned him.
He liked Scott. He liked Scott a lot. It worried him how much. He hardly knew the man—didn’t even know his last name.
But there was something about Scott. He was like a lost sheep that needed to be found and helped back to the flock. Somehow, in some way, Scott had pulled himself away from the world. Away from people. Cedar understood. What had that pool boy, Sam, called him? Shallow? But it wasn’t true. Cedar wasn’t shallow. Not wanting a lover didn’t make him shallow. He liked connections. He just didn’t want any permanent ones. Now friends—that was something he wanted. Scott could be a good friend. He imagined Scott needed the same thing.
